Finding a job during the COVID-19 pandemic

Introduction and general premise This summer was the first time in my life that I truly had to engage with the recruitment process while unemployed. Overall it was an incredibly frustrating experience that I would not like to find myself in again. Having recently found employment after a three-month search, I have every sympathy with those who are still searching. I hope you all find something soon.  This post should achieve four things.  1. Layout what my greatest frustrations were as a job seeker.  2. Explain what makes a good recruiter. 3. Explain what traps to avoid as a job seeker.  4. What you should do to avoid said mistakes. Frustrations with the job searching process Frustration 1 - Misleading job openings The first of these job searching frustrations are job searching sites like LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster, and many many more. The first of these is that a lot of jobs that are advertised as new jobs, are in fact, not new jobs. When I first started looking I wa...

Discussion of the main themes in the books Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug and The Design of Everyday Things by Donald Norman

Idea 1 Paul Krug – Don’t make me think (200) The message of Krug’s first chapter is the simple premise that the user should not need to think. Krug writes that when a user looks at a website a number of things should be immediately obvious. For example, what is a button and what is not. This can be done by methods such as shading, underlining or creating tabs. It should also be obvious how to navigate the website or application. For example a sliding bar or a search button to find the needed information or product.    Users should also not be confused about what a button will do if they click on it. For example, a website should say “read news” not “read information” as the user will wonder what information they are going to find. As explained things need to explained in a way that there is no possible confusion. The writer uses the example of a how a button that says “job-o-roma” could be confusing and should simply say “jobs” or “available jobs” The overall message of...

As the name suggests it is when a lot of data needs to be processed but there is no exact cut of point when data as we have known in the past enters the world of “big data” that we have had in recent years. The general consensuses is that we ca consider a dataset to be “big data” when the dataset to too large to be managed by people or basic databases like Microsoft access. An enquiry in the ethical challenges facing data-driven firms

Intro There is an increasing dilemma when it comes how data is collected. It is easy to see why when many writers have said that we have created more data in the last two years that we have in all of human history. The old saying is that knowledge equals power and with great power comes great responsibility. Teachnology in itself is becoming less of a competitive advantage as the latest tech is so assessable. This means the way the way to gain an advantage is with the use of data and becoming “data driven” Data is king and organisations are finding new ways of getting it, often in ways that people are not aware off. One does not need to go far to find someone who is convinced that their device is listening to their conversations for example.    How has this data collection happened? Data has gotton out of control for many reasons but one big reason is that people had and still don’t understand how their data is collected. Many companies offer people terms and conditions...

How the seminal work of Delone and Mclean (DeLone & McLean, 1992, 2003) paved the way for measuring IS success.

The model is question can be one of great importance even in 2020 despite the fact that it was originally created in 1992. This is because many organisations are still struggling to gain an understanding of how to use many of the key cornerstones it speaks of any digital disruption pulls them into the age of analytics, data and how this can impact business. Cloud computing includes social media sites like twitter, messaging sites like WhatsApp and companies who take the opportunities to scale like never before, such as Amazon or Google. Not often but many of these services are offered as a pay as you go such as Netflix or Amazon Web Services. This means users only pay for services while they need them. Such services are also scalable meaning they the virtually the same product can be offered in differing ways depending on what the user requires.    Another thing that makes the cloud and digital-based products different from traditional products are that they can be sold man...
